* Philipp Meyer grew up in a working class neighborhood in Baltimore, dropped out of high school, but eventually made it to Cornell University. After graduating, he worked as a derivatives trader, a construction worker, and EMT. His first novel, American Rust, was published in thirteen countries and nine languages. It was a New York Times Notable Book of 2009, a Washington Post Best Book of 2009, an Economist Book of the Year, an Amazon Best Book of 2009, one of Newsweek magazine's "Best Books Ever," and made numerous other lists. Universal Pictures is working on the film adaptation. Meyer's other writing has been published in The New York Times Book Review, The Independent, Esquire UK, McSweeney's, The Iowa Review, New Stories from the South, and Salon.com.
